07 Oct MFW SS18 HIGHLIGHTS
If I’m being honest there is only one collection to talk about at Milan Fashion Week. No other show this season, or even for the past couple of seasons that accumulated this amount of frenzy or emotion.
Donatella breathed life back into Gianni with her tribute collection for Versace.
Since Donatella took the reins of the house she has dodged the archives but in the 20-year anniversary of her brother’s death she plunged straight in. And oh, what a treat! The base of the collection were 12 prints that were the foundation of Gianni’s success: including ‘Wild Baroque’ 1992, ‘Vogue’ 1991, ‘Pop Art’ 1991, ‘My Friend Elton’, ‘Butterflies’ 1995, ‘Trésor de la Mer’ 1992, ‘Native Americans’ 1992,
Some of the clothing were direct replicas of Gianni’s, and some just took what he had done as the foundation and revamped to fit the wardrobe of today’s Versace woman. It was meant to be Gianni and not Donatella. I really don’t think anyone can truly explain in plain words just the power of the clothing, all you can say is that it was VERSACE. It had the power, sex appeal and elegance of what the brand was born on. It was a moment that no one will forget.
CINDY! NAOMI! CLAUDIA! CARLA! HELENA! The OGs of the modelling world returned to grace us mere beings with their presence on the catwalk in metallic gold dresses. Not only did they prove to us again why they are hailed as ‘supermodels’ but they brought back the glamour and opulence of what fashion shows used to be like.
BRAVO! And long live Gianni.
